Three major new contracts have been awarded to Granada Material Handling from Dogger bank Tier 1 suppliers.
Smulders will see 95 Granada cranes installed on the first phase of the wind farm, Dogger Bank A and 95 Cranes installed on the second phase of the wind farm, Dogger bank B.
One crane will be installed on each wind turbine platform.
In addition, there are a further 2 units for the Dogger Bank B convertor platform, and it builds on Granada’s previous contract with Aibel, for the Dogger bank A convertor platform davit cranes, awarded last year.
The wind Turbine Platform cranes, specifically designed for Dogger Bank Wind Farm, will have a capacity of 1.2te and a radius of 2,750mm.
Granada have been contracted for design, manufacture, and delivery, including on-site commissioning with Smulders at their Hoboken facility.
Similarly, the convertor platform davit cranes for Aibel also have a capacity of 1.2te and a larger radius of 5,000mm, these will also be delivered and include on site commissioning.
Delivery of the first batch of cranes will commence later this year and the project will run into the middle of 2023
At 3.6GW Dogger Bank Wind Farm will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm.
It’s being developed in three phases known as Dogger Bank A, B and C.
Dogger Bank C is a joint venture between SSE Renewables (50%) and Equinor (50%) while Dogger Bank A and B are owned by SSE Renewables (40%), Equinor (40%) and Eni (20%).
When all three phases are completed in 2026 the wind farm will provide enough renewable energy for 6 million UK households.
The number of UK jobs that will be created to support the delivery and operation of Dogger Bank Wind Farm so far is approaching 3,000.

“Granada’s Python Davit crane has been specifically designed to suit the work platform layout of Dogger Bank Wind Farm, which will install foundations that are among the largest ever used in offshore wind.
“Its unique design will lend itself to safe and efficient maintenance and operation, as well as meeting the demanding technical requirements of a project on this scale.”
