Macquarie’s Green Investment Group has inked a partnership deal to work with Scottish developer Renewable Infrastructure Development Group to compete in the upcoming 10GW ScotWind lease round.
GIG Europe head Ed Northam said the move is the earliest the investor has become involved in UK offshore wind projects.
“Our flexible approach to investment is perfectly complemented by our partnership with RIDG, which brings with them a fantastic team to supplement our own development expertise,” he said.
RIDG commercial director Mike Hay said the company is answering Scotland’s call to bring new companies into the offshore wind market.
The partners will work on new ways of structuring and developing projects, which Hay said will boost competition and drive innovation.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with GIG on ScotWind. RIDG’s local development experience perfectly complements GIG’s global reach and ambition,” he added.
“This partnership is already proving to be a fast, flexible and responsive approach to development that will be vital if Scotland is to unlock its industrial potential.”
ScotWind is due to open in the coming months with first lease awards potentially due by the year-end.
