Hai Long Offshore Wind Power and CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering have signed an exclusivity capacity agreement with Century Iron & Steel Industrial and Century Offshore Wind Power Equipment for foundation for the 300MW Hai Long 2 offshore wind farm off Taiwan.
Under to the terms of the deal, Century Steel Structure and Century Wind Power will supply 21 three-legged casing-type underwater foundations for Hai Long 2 in 2024 to support the 14MW wind turbines.
Hai Long is located 50km off the coast of Changhua in water depths of about 55 metres and a total development capacity of more than 1GW.
During the two-and-a-half year selection process, Hai Long and CSBC-DEME evaluated all aspects of potential suppliers, including technical capabilities, past performance, business conditions and contract terms.
Century Wind Power Business vice president Stephen Lai said: “I am delighted that after two years of discussion and negotiation on bid preparation, we have finally received the affirmation of Hailong and Taiwan Ship Huanhai, and we have chosen Century Steel Structure and Century Wind Power as our partners.
“It will supply the underwater foundation for the Hai Long Wind Farm to carry 14MW wind turbines.
“It will be the largest underwater infrastructure in Taiwan at that time, and it will also become an indicator project, laying an excellent foundation for the project of block development after 2026.
“We started training in 2018, and after years of accumulated experience, we are confident that we can deliver the 21 underwater foundations of Hai Long Wind Farm on schedule.”
CDWE chief executive Marco Kanaar added: “The CDWE team has maintained close cooperation with the Hai Long team, and achieved the localization procurement plan for the Hai Long Wind Farm as scheduled within the schedule.
“We look forward to completing the formal underwater foundation with Century Steel Structure and Century Wind Power in the future.
“Signing the contract, entering the project execution stage together, and successfully building the Hai Long Wind Farm is also the greatest affirmation of Taiwan’s local supply chain.”
Hai Long project director Felipe Montero said: “We are delighted to see Century Steel and Century Wind Power become part of our supply chain, which symbolises that Hai Long Project has reached another important milestone in localisation.
“Localization is extremely challenging, Century Steel and Century Wind Power have valuable practical experience, and Hai Long is confident to work with them to realize their commitment to localization.”
Hai Long Project expected to complete the financial financing as scheduled in the second half of this year and enter the wind farm construction period.
