GE Renewables has installed the prototype of its 12MW Haliade X platform in the Dutch Port of Rotterdam.
The 260-metre tall test turbine was installed next to Sif’s Maasvlakte yard and will be energised shortly.
GE expects to complete type testing new platform by the end of next year and electricity from the turbine will power adjacent Sif facilities.
A land-based crane was used to install components, including the turbine’s 107-metre long blades.
GE Renewables has already secured its first orders for the new machine, which will be deployed at SSE Renewables and Equinor’s 3.6GW Dogger Bank complex in the UK North Sea.
The Haliade X will also feature at Orsted’s 120MW Skipjack project off the coast off Maryland and the 1.1GW Ocean Wind project off New Jersey.
