GE Renewable Energy has installed the first two tower sections for its 12MW Haliade-X offshore wind turbine prototype in Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
The company said the third section will be installed once the nacelle arrives later in the summer.

GRI manufactured the towers in Seville, Spain, while the nacelle and blades are being produced at Saint-Nazaire and Cherbourg, France, respectively.
Installation of the prototype is expected to be completed in the summer after which the turbine will undergo testing.
The initial period of operations will see data collected needed to obtain type certification, an important step before serial production in 2021.
