Two unidentified suitors have made bids to acquire troubled Northern Ireland yard Harland and Wolff, according to an MP for east Belfast.
Gavin Robinson, who along with his DUP party leader Arlene Foster met with administrators on Monday, said the offers are “valid and credible”.
Robinson described the meeting with Michael Jennings and Brian Murphy, partners at business advisory firm BDO Northern Ireland, as “very positive”.
“These bidders recognise the skill of the workers employed by Harland and Wolff and this will be welcome news for the employees,” he said.
“It is important that the administrators now take the next steps to look at the potential of each bidder, which will provide the best outcome for Harland and Wolff.”
BDO Northern Ireland declined to comment.
The yard, which has been involved in offshore wind fabrication, entered administration earlier this month after an unsuccessful search for a buyer.
A period of unpaid temporary lay-off for some of the facility’s 123 staff was extended on Friday to facilitation ongoing work to secure the site’s future.
