Dutch offshore contractor Heerema has secured a transport and installation contract for all foundations and the offshore substation at Avangrid’s 800MW Vineyard project in the USA.
The contractor will install all 84 of the project’s monopiles and transition pieces as well as the wind farm’s offshore substation and associated jacket base, Heerema said.
Details of Heerema’s involvement in the project were first reported in the subscriber-only reNEWS newsletter in April.
Offshore installation work of Massachusetts is due to get underway next year.
“We are extremely proud to be part of the first and largest commercial offshore wind project in the US,” said Heerema chief executive Koos-Jan van Brouwershaven.
“This project fits perfectly into Heerema’s agenda to participate in innovative and sustainable projects. Our vessels are ideally suited to install specific infrastructure in complex conditions,” he added.
Dutch fabricator Sif will produce all 84-monopile foundations for the project. The wind farm’s 3000-tonne substation and its 1,500 tonne foundation will be built at Bladt facilities in Denmark.
Vineyard is due online in 2022 and will feature MHI Vestas turbines rated at 9.5MW.
The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management yesterday delayed the issuance of the final environmental impact statement for the wind farm.
