The foundation components for Orsted’s 1400MW Hornsea 2 offshore wind project in the UK have arrived at the Buss Terminal in Eemshaven, Netherlands.
The first six transition pieces were unloaded from the transport barge by a crawler crane type LR1750.
At the terminal Buss used a gantry crane to move the 350-tonne transition pieces.
Over the next several months Buss will receive a total of 165 foundation sets, which will be handled and stored on the terminal.
The foundation sets will then be loaded onto the installation vessel Innovation and installed at the wind farm site, covering an area of 462 square kilometres.
The foundation sets consist of a monopile, which is installed into the seabed, as well as a transition piece, which connects the monopile with the tower of the wind turbine.
Up to 250,000 square metres of the heavy-lift terminal will be used for Hornsea 2.
Hornsea 2 will be the world’s biggest offshore wind farm when it is commissioned in 2022.
Buss is providing the personnel and the storage area as well as project management of the base port logistics and required heavy-lift equipment.
Hornsea Two is located approximately 89 km off the Yorkshire coast in the North Sea.
The wind farm will feature 165 8MW Siemens Gamesa turbines.
Buss Terminal Eemshaven won the tender from DEME Offshore in February.
