TenneT has confirmed HSM Offshore will build a 700MW offshore transformer station for the Borssele Beta project off the Netherlands.
The Dutch fabricator had an option to provide the platform as preferred contractor under a previous deal for the 700MW Borssele Alpha project.
Beta is online in 2020 will connect Shell, Van Oord, Eneco and Mitsubishi/Diamond Generating Europe’s around 700MW Borssele 3&4 offshore wind farm.
The connection will consist of two 220kV subsea cables with a capacity of 350MW.
Cables will feature so-called dynamic capacity allowing a single cable to be temporarily subjected to a load of up to 380MW.
HSM has meanwhile performed the first steel cut marking the ceremonial start of construction of the Borssele Alpha platform at its shipyard in Schiedam.
