Huisman has signed a contract with Dong Fang Offshore (DFO) for the delivery of a modular 30mt Cable-Lay System, its first in the segment.
The system is designed for deployment across various vessel types, including DFO’s newbuild Construction Service Operation Vessels and Offshore Construction Vessels being built by VARD.
According to Huisman, the system offers flexibility and rapid mobilisation for inter-array, export cable installation, and repair operations, minimising mobilisation costs and start-up delays.
A key innovation is the integrated quadrant handling system, which eliminates the need for a crane and can also function as a joint handling arm during repair campaigns.
Timon Ligterink, commercial director APAC at Huisman, said: “With this modular system, we are introducing a unique solution that offers both operational flexibility and efficiency, supporting DFO’s commitment to deliver reliable and cost-effective services to the offshore wind industry.”
The system includes dual 15mt tensioners, a 50mt A&R winch, and is compatible with cables ranging from 50mm to 500mm in diameter.
The project builds on a 2023 partnership between Huisman and cable-lay operations specialist ESD and follows DFO’s prior order for a 3000mt cable basket.
Polin Chen, CEO at Dong Fang Offshore, said: “The flexibility to be able to deploy integrated, fit-for-purpose spreads on both our Commissioning Service Operations Vessels and Offshore Construction Vessels… will ensure that there continues to be fit-for-purpose, best in class cable installations available to meet the challenging conditions of Taiwan and beyond.”
