Offshore wind can make the Humber Estuary on the north-east coast of England a “new corridor for UK growth”, delegates at the launch of Offshore Wind Connections have heard.
John Prescott, the former Labour Deputy Prime Minister, said the region will “will make a major contribution in the new industrial revolution”, which is being led by offshore wind.
Prescott said the new industrial revolution is “bigger than Brexit”.
“We need greater co-operation between all our regions,” he added during the launch of the seventh OWC conference on Wednesday evening in Hull.
The Labour man said recent climate protests were forcing global governments reconsider the pace of renewable energy development.
“We had a motion in the house of parliament today and will be debating taking urgent action to speed up decarbonisation in the House of Lords tomorrow,” he added.
Team Humber Marine Alliance chief executive Mark O’Reilly said the conference had sold out early this year.
“We had to disappoint a lot of people. The industry has grown a lot in the last five years and it is all coming together now,” he said.
