Iberdrola has begun offshore construction of the 315MW Windanker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea with the installation of the first monopile.
The foundations, up to 84 metres long and weighing 2100 tonnes, are being manufactured by Navantia and Windar Renovables and installed by Van Oord using the heavy-lift vessel Svanen.
Windanker is Iberdrola’s third major project in its Baltic Hub and will deliver 315MW of capacity by the end of 2026, equivalent to powering about 315,000 homes.
Felipe Montero, chief executive of Iberdrola Germany, said: “With Windanker, we are realising the third major project of our Baltic Hub.
“The wind farm is not only a sustainable investment in the transformation of Germany, it also brings state-of-the-art offshore technology to the Baltic Sea, creates added value in the region and strengthens the link between German and Spanish industry.”
