Spanish officials plan to auction off acreage off the islands coast to floating offshore wind developers.
Iberdrola is reported to be aiming to develop up to 2000MW of floating offshore wind in Spain, according to Spanish newspaper El Periodico de la Energia.
There are several other projects being developed in the area with Spanish developer Greenalia announcing the start of activity on a 200MW floating wind project in October last year, the first of which is known as Gofio.
Equinor previously outlined plans for up to 200MW of floating capacity in the Canaries, with operations starting as early as 2024.
