French company Ideol has kicked-off construction of its Floatgen floating offshore wind turbine.
The 2MW hardware is being built by Bouygues Travaux Publics in Saint-Nazaire Port and will be installed at the Centrale Nantes test site (SEM-REV) off the coast from Le Croisic.
Ideol said the turbine will be the first offshore turbine installed off the French coast in an official announcement at today’s Seanergy marine renewables event in Biarritz.
It will be mounted on a floating foundation designed by the company in a water depth of 33 metres.
The demonstrator turbine will be commissioned next year and is being developed by a consortium of seven project partners.
