IPF2024: NY solicitation ‘to revive 4GW of stalled wind farms'

New York’s fifth offshore wind solicitation will provide a rapid route to save a trio of stalled Round 3 projects, delegates at IPF 2024 have been told.

NYSERDA chief Doreen Harris said Corio, Total and Rise Light & Power’s 1.3GW Attentive 1, RWE and National Grid Ventures’ 1.3GW Community and Vineyard Offshore’s 1.3GW Excelsiorcan enter the new auction.

Harris said New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s decision to launch a request for information for a fifth solicitation round on Tuesday signalled a “turning point” for the projects.

Last week, NYSERDA declined to progress the schemes citing GE Vernova’s ditching of an 18MW turbine as having a “material” effect on the wind farms.

Other key stories in the edition include US Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland laying out the country’s five-year leasing blueprint, and news that Dominion Energy is promised to begin construction of its 2.6GW Coastal Virginia offshore wind farm.

Meanwhile, a special report reveals while suppliers now hold all the cards in procurement, Fugro Americas director Céline Gerson looks at overcoming vessel availability hurdles and GNO Inc’s Michael Hecht explains why Louisiana is poised to take the lead in the US offshore industry.
