The jacket for the Thor offshore substation has been rolled out in a new milestone for the 1GW wind project.
HSM Offshore Energy said it was a “proud moment for the entire team” as the platform (pictured) was placed on the barge at its Schiedam yard in the Netherlands. The next step will be the load-out of the topside.
The Thor offshore wind farm, Denmark’s largest wind project under construction, is being developed by RWE.
Thor will be built 22km off the coast of Thorsminde on the west coast of Jutland and will feature 72 Siemens Gamesa turbines.
Two substations – one at sea and one at land – will connect the wind farm to the Danish grid.
HSM Offshore Energy is responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of the offshore high-voltage substation and its jacket foundation.
Once fully operational in 2027, Thor will deliver green electricity to 1.5 million Danish households.
The offshore wind project is owned by RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Management Investment (49%). RWE is in charge of construction and operations throughout the lifecycle of the wind farm.
