A Hitachi 5MW floating wind turbine set sail from Osaka Bay on 2 July for the Fukushima Forward project off the coast of Japan.
It is the third floating unit for the project and is described as a “downwind type” turbine, by the Japan Wind Power Association.
The machine was installed on an advanced spar type floater between May and June about 2km offshore from Awaji Island in Osaka Bay.
The spar was designed by JMU, the Japan Wind Power Association said.
The turbine is scheduled to start operating by the end of the year about 20km off the coast of Fukushima.
