James Fisher Renewables has entered into strategic partnerships with two local companies in Taiwan’s offshore wind industry.
The partnerships with Dong Fang (DFO) and Ho Lung Power Engineering (HLPE) will enable James Fisher Renewables to localise its activities in Taiwan.
DFO, the largest Taiwanese maritime engineering, procurement and construction contractor, will provide local vessels, crew and project management to James Fisher Renewables for offshore wind projects in-country.
This will allow James Fisher Renewables to enhance/increase the construction and balance of plant services they can provide in Taiwan.
Through HLPE, a leading Taiwanese electrical company promoting the development of offshore wind power and onshore power systems, James Fisher Renewables will have access to local project teams of skilled personnel and project equipment, to complete services for termination and testing, cable repair and fault finding on Taiwanese offshore wind farms.
Through the partnerships James Fisher Renewables will provide technical knowledge transfer to selected local teams and provide O&M, termination and testing and other selected services.
By using existing expertise across the company and through these local partnerships, James Fisher Renewables will be able to provide a “valuable local content offering” to the Taiwanese market, helping to bridge skills shortages while enabling customers to optimise their local content requirements.
DFO chief executive Polin Chen said: “We are looking forward to the cooperation and the setup of the local capacity, together with DFO and HLPE, shows the strong commitment from JF Renewables to establish localisation.
“The combination of expertise of JF Renewables, DFO and HLPE will demonstrate a successful localised competitive solution for long term development in Taiwan.”
Chen Cheng-Lung, General Manager at HLPE, added: “This cooperation brings in foreign expertise to implement the localization of the wind power industry.
“With JF Renewable’s comprehensive solutions, DFO’s marine management, and HLPE’s power engineering experiences, the leading companies in different fields working together, we can make Taiwan into an Asia-Pacific hub.”
James Fisher Renewables APAC regional vice president Maida Zahirovic added: “This is an exciting step forward for JF Renewables in the APAC region as we continue to demonstrate our commitment to in-country development, localisation and investment.
“Through our strategic partnerships with DFO and HLPE we can support our customers with valuable solutions maximizing their local content points in the round 3 auction, while training local teams and providing knowledge transfer from our global renewables’ capabilities.
“In addition, we’ll be recruiting additional local personnel to assist with Balance of Plant services. The Taiwan branch will become the APAC hub for JF Renewables and through this we will be able to bring our comprehensive services further afield.”
