Kincardine Offshore Wind Limited (KOWL) has filed a variation order with the Scottish government detailing proposed changes to its 50MW floating offshore wind farm off the Aberdeenshire coast.
The project will now consist of a total of seven turbines installed over two phases, instead of between six and eight as previously proposed.
A single turbine 2MW first phase – to be installed next year – will be followed by a six-turbine second stage with hardware of up to 8.4MW each to a maximum capacity of 50MW.
The earlier proposal had envisaged turbines of between 6MW and 8MW.
The first phase will consist of a Vestas V80 2MW machine with a 106-metre tip height and 80-metre rotor diameter.
The turbines for the second phase will have tip heights of 191 metres and rotor diameters of 164 metres. KOWL said the installation period would be “up to 2020”.
