Koehler Renewable Energy and CMB Energy have formed a new joint venture, KB Renewables, to develop and operate wind power projects with a target of 1GW installed capacity by 2030.
The company, established in April, is 80% owned by Koehler and 20% by CMB, and may expand into solar and battery storage in the future.
KB Renewables plans to develop its own projects as well as acquire existing and planned wind farms, with a strategy of long-term ownership and operation.
CMB Energy founder Dr Claus M Brodersen (pictured, centre) now managing director of KB Renewables, said Koehler was “a financially solid partner… with a penchant for strategic planning”.
Koehler corporate director of wind, solar, hydro and business development Nicolas Christoph (pictured, left with Koehler Group COO, Dr Stefan Karrer, right) has also been appointed as managing director.
The JV will contribute to Koehler Group’s energy needs through power purchase agreements and direct delivery models.
Christoph said the aim was to deliver “solid and sustainable wind power projects… compelling not only in terms of profitability, but also in terms of their contribution to the energy security and decarbonisation of our own sites within the Koehler Group”.
