UAE fabricator Lamprell has won a $200m contract from lead foundations contractor GeoSea to deliver a total of 48 jackets for EDPR’s 950MW Moray East wind farm off Scotland.
The steel company will manufacture 45 turbine and three substation foundations for the project under the deal, which was first reported in subscriber-only reNEWS earlier this month.
Fabrication will start in quarter two next year at Lamprell’s Hamriyah and Sharjah yards in the UAE with GeoSea to transport the components from there.
Lamprell chief executive Christopher McDonald said the company is “proud” of securing the deal, its second large-scale fabrication contract in the offshore wind sector after ScottishPower Renewables 714MW East Anglia 1 off east England (pictured).
“The contract award manifests our commitment to the fast growing renewables industry which, despite the recent challenges, remains a core strategic focus for Lamprell,” he said.
“Over the past 18 months we have upskilled our workforce and enhanced our systems and processes in order to enable us to deliver projects in the renewables segment safely, cost effectively and to a high standard.
“We look forward to working with GeoSea over the months to come.”
Moray East will feature 100 MHI Vestas 9.5MW turbines and is due online in 2021.
