Danish consultancy Lautec has launched live public tracking of the construction of RWE’s 1400MW Sofia offshore wind farm.
Construction work at the Sofia wind farm, one of the UK’s most significant renewable energy projects, can now be tracked in real-time through a publicly accessible platform developed by Lautec.
The interactive Sofia demo provides live vessel tracking and major construction milestone updates on Dogger Bank, where the 1.4GW offshore wind farm is taking shape.
Through Lautec’s demo, users can follow the project’s major milestone completions, including rock installation, monopile installation, secondary steel installation, and inter-array cable pull-in, lay, and burial.
In addition to milestone progress tracking, users can see the live positions of vessels on Dogger Bank, including Van Oord’s Aeolus and Calypso.
The information is updated every two minutes via MarineTraffic. Users can also explore past vessel movements with the timelapse replay functionality in the demo.
The platform is continuously updated with data from Sea Impact’s market intelligence feed, Lautec’s WindGIS and DPR SaaS Platform modules, and MarineTraffic’s AIS feed.
Managing partner and head of IT at Lautec Henrik Iversen said: “Our software provides live, situational awareness of project execution for your team – making sure everyone involved has the full picture of current challenges and opportunities.
“With this kind of in-depth tracking, teams and stakeholders can see exactly what’s happening offshore – and this demo based on commercially available data is just the tip of the iceberg of what our full SaaS Platform can do for our clients’ projects.”
Located 195km off Britain’s north-east coastline in the North Sea, the Sofia offshore wind farm project is expected to be completed in 2026.
