Crane supplier Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock has begun dismantling work on the HLC 295000 crane that collapsed earlier his year aboard installation vessel Orion at the Port of Rostock.
The first components have been safely and successfully recovered, including the 600-tonne auxiliary jib.
Using flame cutters the jib head was subsequently removed from the auxiliary jib before both elements were transported to Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock.
Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock technical solutions director Carl Sarens said: “Despite the high complexity of the task the dismantling of the HLC 295000 is going according to plan.
“Thanks to the first-class technology, modern equipment and our committed team we have achieved our goals on schedule and carried out the work, together with all those involved in the project, under strict safety standards.”
In the next phase of the recovery, Orion will be shifted to Berth 15 in the Port of Rostock.
The pivot piece and the A-frame of the HLC 295000 will be disassembled there.
The TCC 78000, which is permanently installed in the Port of Rostock, is being used for the secure recovery of these large components.
The TCC 78000 was already involved in the assembly of the HLC 295000. The recovery work is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
The steel construction work for the repair of the HLC 295000 has already begun in the workshops at Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock.
Both the 142-metre long crane jib and parts of the A-frame are being completely newly manufactured.
