LM Wind Power and Adwen have partnered to design a 88.4 metre blade which will feature on the turbine manufacturer’s 8MW offshore wind turbine.
The blade (pictured) will be the largest ever produced, the companies said today, and will be fitted for Adwen’s AD8-180 turbine.
The product was unveiled on the first day of the Global Offshore Wind conference in Manchester.
A first blade has been manufactured at LM Wind Power’s factory in Lunderskov in Denmark and will be transported to a facility in Aalborg shortly where it will undergo testing.
“When you are building the largest wind turbine in the world, almost everything you do is an unprecedented challenge,” said Adwen general manager Luis Álvarez.
“We are going where no one else has ever gone before, pushing all the known frontiers in the industry.”
LM Wind Power chief executive Marc de Jong added: “The LM 88.4 P blade is an extraordinary example of industrialized innovation at record breaking scale.”
