The dispute between shipbuilder Seatrium and shipping giant Maersk over a $475m jack-up vessel destined for the US is headed to arbitration, Seatrium has announced.
Seatrium says it received a notice of arbitration the day after it informed Maersk that the vessel would be delivered by 30 January, 2026.
The vessel is due to perform turbine installation at Equinor’s 810MW Empire Wind 1 off the coast of New York.
The notice “asserts that disputes have arisen between the parties to the Contract, and that such disputes are to be referred to arbitration in London to be conducted in accordance with the current London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA) terms”, Seatrium told investors.
Seatrium is “taking legal advice and will vigorously prosecute its position and defend any claims that may be brought by the Buyer”, the shipbuilder added.
