Subcontractor Manor Renewable Energy (MRE) has signed a contract with Yunneng Wind Power for the provision of temporary power during the turbine construction phase of the 640MW Yunlin offshore wind project, off Taiwan.
The contract is the first that UK-based MRE has signed in Taiwan and builds upon the company’s track record of temporary power provision for offshore wind projects, in the North Sea in Europe.
Yunlin is located around 8km off the west coast of Taiwan.
The project will comprise of 80 Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-167 DD offshore wind turbines.
The wind farm is due online in 2021.
MRE director Toby Mead said: “We’re hugely excited about establishing an office in Taipei and working on what will hopefully be the first of many projects along the Taiwanese coast; we’ve worked extremely hard to provide the service that we do and that experience will serve us well on this and future APAC projects.”
Fred Olsen Windcarrier jack-up Brave Tern will carry out transport and installation of the turbines.
Yunlin is due online next year.
Yunneng Wind Power is the project company that is developing the wind farm, which is owned by German offshore wind developer WPD.
The first batch of transition pieces for the project’s, supplied by Taiwanese outfit CTCI Machinery Corporation, are being loaded out this month before being transported to the offshore site for installation.
