Marine consultancy MetOceanWorks has been hired by SSE Renewables to deliver detailed metocean design criteria for the 520MW Arklow Bank 2 offshore wind farm off Ireland.
MetOceanWorks said the work will involve state-of-the-art high-resolution modelling techniques.
It will be supported on the job by Cooper Marine Advisors and Forristall Ocean Engineering, providing expertise in coastal processes and shallow-water waves, respectively.
MetOceanWorks managing director Andrew Watson said: “We are delighted to be supporting SSE Renewables on this project, bringing our extensive experience in the development of metocean design criteria worldwide to the emerging Irish offshore wind sector.
“Having been heavily involved in the Arklow Bank sediment dynamics study, we are ideally placed to ensure linkage between these two important topics.”
SSE metocean analyst Andrew Berkeley said: “For offshore wind turbines, avoiding over-conservatism whilst ensuring a certifiable basis for engineering design is of great importance.
“MetOceanWorks’ know-how and experience will be invaluable as we work toward delivery this exciting project.”
