State electricity distribution companies have submitted for approval with the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities a draft request for proposal for up to 800MW of offshore wind capacity.
The document states that the RFP, which would be the state’s second for offshore wind, seeks at least 400MW, but would allow proposals from 200MW upwards to about 800MW.

If approved, the RFP would be launched in May, with proposals to be submitted by August.
The outcome would be revealed in November, with contract negotiations and execution in December.
In the US state’s first offshore wind RFP in May 2018, the 800MW Vineyard Wind project was successful.
Massachusetts aims to have 1.6GW of offshore capacity operating by 30 June 2027.
