Mayflower Wind has signed a framework agreement with offshore wind engineering consultancy OWC to provide engineering support to the developer’s project.
OWC’s scope of work comprises electrical, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and power systems support to Mayflower Wind.
OWC’s electrical team lead and US country manager Jeff Fodiak (pictured) will head up the project.
Fodiak has worked as an electrical engineering consultant in offshore wind since 2008, specialising in the electrical design, grid connection, and general engineering of offshore wind farms.
He said: “Efficient power systems are key to harnessing and capitalising fully the power developed from offshore wind.
“OWC helps developers optimise transmission costs and ensure the electrical system is technically feasible.
“This increases the return on investment from each kilowatt of electricity produced.”
Mayflower Wind is a joint venture between Shell and EDP Renewables.
In December 2018, Mayflower Wind won the rights to develop a federal offshore lease area located off Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, which has the potential to generate over 1600MW of clean electricity.
