Menck has started using its MHU 4400S hammer system to drive the first of 190, 8-metre diameter monopiles for an unnamed large wind farm development in the UK North Sea.
The MHU 4400S hammer system, which can deliver 4400 kJ of impact energy, has been deployed to support the installation of the first foundations on the project.
The hammer helps to achieve carbon efficiencies by using quieter technology in comparison to the conventional MHU design, according to Menck.
Reduction of the project footprint is supported by the integrated system setup which requires minimal personnel to work on the installation, it added.
Menck’s hammer system will be rented for the duration of the project and supported by the firm’s personnel to drive the remaining monopiles to the design depth in the seabed.
