The Iemants and Engie Fabricom-Tractebel double act has been confirmed as the winning bidder to build the substation topside and jacket for the 396MW Merkur wind farm in the German North Sea.
The duo are to lead engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of the offshore substation.
Merkur will feature 66 GE Haliade 6MW turbines some 45km north of the island of Borkum. It is being developed by Partners Group, InfraRed Capital Partners, DEME Concessions Wind, GE Energy Financial Services and L’Agence de l’environnement et de la maîtrise de l’énergie.
Engie Fabricom power manager Stefaan Devolder said: “Thanks to our long-term experience gained from previous projects like Belwind, Amrumbank, Butendiek, Luchterduinen and Gemini on the one hand, and our 30 years expertise in substation engineering, construction, smart grid simulations and calculations on the other hand, we are pleased to help our client and act as a partner in the energy transition.”
