MHI Vestas and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners have signed an agreement in Taiwan to ensure that turbine towers for offshore wind farms are manufactured on the Asian island in line with local content rules.
The so-called localisation agreement is the first of its kind in Taiwan between a developer and a turbine manufacturer, the companies said.
The agreement also formalises a joint commitment to the Taiwan market between the two parties, MHI Vestas said.
MHI Vestas chief executive Lars Bondo Krogsgaard said: “The localisation agreement we are signing with CIP is a bold step forward to ensure that offshore wind delivers on its promise in Taiwan.
“We hope Taiwan will continue to provide a favourable business climate, which provides the necessary foundation for the establishment of our supply chain.
“We are fully committed with our partner CIP to maximise local supply as much as possible so that Taiwan can reap the economic and environmental benefits afforded by offshore wind.”
