MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has constructed and installed two V164 8MW wind turbines for European Energy’s 16MW Måde project in Denmark.
The wind farm, which is located on the Danish west coast just south of the city of Esbjerg, was officially opened by the Danish Energy & Climate Minister.
MHI Vestas said the two wind turbines are only the second and third V164 8MW units to be commissioned.
They have a rotor diameter of 164 metres and a maximum height of 200 metres from the foundation to the blade tip.
The Måde project is part of a test programme to enable MHI Vestas to examine and enhance the turbines in an offshore-like environment, the company said.
MHI Vestas Offshore Wind chief executive officer Jens Tommerup said: “Today marks a significant milestone for MHI Vestas with the official opening of the Måde project.
“We are committed to developing affordable offshore wind energy and the Måde site was a crucial step in the development of the V164, giving us the opportunity to test and verify the installation and commissioning of the turbine prior to offshore work.”
