Siemens has signed a preferred bidder agreement for the onshore works and offshore substations for the 950MW Moray 1 wind farm in the Outer Moray Firth off the east coast of Scotland.
The work will include the design, supply, construction and installation of the onshore substation, about 30km of onshore cabling, and three offshore substations including the topsides.
Siemens director of AC grid access solutions Mike Grainger said: “Siemens is proud to be working with the Moray team and we look forward to sharing the benefits that our innovative solutions will bring to this project.”
Moray 1 project director Oscar Diaz said: “Siemens selection for the electrical infrastructure is a major announcement for the project and we are delighted to bring the experience of a major global player to this project which will deliver electricity at less than half the cost of projects being installed today.”
Moray 1 is a joint development between EDP Renewables (77%) and Engie (23%) and was recently awarded a Contract for Difference at £57.50 in the UK’s second auction round.
