Mott MacDonald is to provide construction and operational monitoring for the 309MW Rentel offshore wind farm off the Belgian coast.
The UK engineering consultancy was also the lenders’ technical advisor and delivered due diligence services during the financing of the €1.1bn project, which reached financial close earlier this week.
The work included input on the deployment of the wind turbine platform and the use of XL monopiles, Mott MacDonald said.
The company added that it also provided technical support to project developer.
Mott MacDonald project manager Nick Morgan said: “As we were commissioned by the developer at an early stage, we were able to provide valuable input during the initial contract negotiations and design stage.
“This meant that the lenders’ requirements could be fed into the process and addressed early on to achieve bankability, therefore streamlining the financing process.”
The wind farm, which will consist of 42 upgraded Siemens 7MW turbines, is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2018.
It is by eight shareholders: DEME; Rent@Port Energy; SRIW Environmental; Socofe; Z-kracht; Power@Sea; Elicio Offshore; and Aspiravi Offshore.
A total of nine banks are providing debt to finance the project, including the European Investment Bank (EIB), AG Insurance, ASN Bank, Belfius, ING, KBC, KfW Ipex-Bank, Rabobank and Societe Generale.
