Spanish company Navantia has won a deal fabricate five floating foundations for the 48MW second phase of the Kincardine project off the east coast of Scotland.
The company will manufacture the Principle Power-designed substructures at the Fene yard, north-western Spain, as first reported in the last issue of subscriber-only reNEWS.
Navantia will collaborate with compatriot company Windar, which will tackle plate cutting and forming at Aviles.
Work will begin in May and wrap up in April 2020. The contract is with Kincardine Offshore Wind shareholder Cobra Wind International and includes the production of a total of 15,000 tonnes of steel.
The foundations will support MHI Vestas V164-9.5MW turbines.
Installation of the floaters will start in the summer of 2020. First power is expected in September.
A single Vestas 2MW turbine, sitting on a Principle Power WindFloat platform, was installed last summer and is operational off 15km off Aberdeen.
