Navantia Seanergies has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the US shipyard General Dynamics NASSCO to promote the development of offshore wind energy in the United States.
The agreement contemplates the manufacture of components and assembly of floating foundations for offshore wind projects in the US.
This would combine the knowledge and experience of almost a decade of Navantia in the offshore wind sector, and the capabilities of the shipyard located in San Diego, California, as well as nearby port facilities and other locations for future offshore wind development on that coast and on the east coast.
Navantia said its ambition is to be a global supplier in the offshore wind sector, also providing localised critical structures such as both fixed and floating foundations and substations for offshore wind farms.
With this agreement, the commercial options of Navantia’s green energy division in the United States are reinforced, where it already has contracts for five transition modules (Module Support Structures) for two parks on the east coast, in addition to other projects in phase offer for this country.
Navantia Seanergies has developed the St Brieuc programme of 62 jackets, with part of the production carried out in Brest, in French Brittany.
This being a model that it intends to export to other places, including the US, it said.
General Dynamics NASSCO is one of the three shipyards of the Marine Systems group of the General Dynamics Corporation, founded in 1960, with its more than 32 hectares of surface area and important means of elevation.
