Iberdrola has confirmed the award of a €350m foundations fabrication contract for the 496MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm to the Spanish Navantia-Windar joint venture.
The agreement is for the construction and assembly of 62 jackets and their corresponding piles.
The contract will lead to the direct employment of around 1000 professionals in Galicia and Asturias, in Spain, and over 1100 in France, where Navantia-Windar will open a factory to complete the project.
The contract was signed at Navantia’s shipyard in Fene, A Coruna, north-west Spain, by Iberdrola president Ignacio Galan, Navantia president Susana de Sarria and Windar president Orlando Alonso, in the presence of the President of the Xunta de Galicia, Alberto Nunez Feijoo.
Navantia will make the jackets at its facilities in Fene.
Windar will produce the piles at its headquarters in Aviles. The final assembly of all the subsets will be carried out in the facilities of the Galician shipyards.
Navantia and Windar have together secured contracts close to €1000m in value for offshore wind projects, including Saint-Brieuc.
The companies have already completed orders for the Wikinger offshore wind farm, in the German waters of the sea Baltic and East Anglia 1, in the UK.
