The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is to host a series of open house events this month September to discuss New York’s recent awards for 1696MW of offshore wind energy.
NYSERDA staff will present details of Equinor’s Empire Wind and Bay State Wind’s Sunrise Wind projects, as submitted in the project proposals, including local impacts and opportunities.
A spokesman for NYSERDA said the public open houses will be held to engage local communities and public about the two offshore wind projects.
The open house events will be held in Albany, Brookhaven, Long Beach, Southampton, Staten Island, Sunset Park, and The Rockaways.
The first event, in Staten Island, will be held on 9 September.
In July, Orsted-Eversource joint venture Bay State Wind’s Sunrise Wind project was selected to negotiate a 25-year offshore wind renewable energy certificate (OREC) for an offshore wind farm with a capacity of 880MW.
Equinor’s Empire Wind project will have a capacity of 816MW.
