Nexans has confirmed a contract to deliver the export cabling for Parkwind’s 219MW Northwester 2 offshore wind farm off the coast of Belgium.
The deal covers design, manufacture and testing of the subsea wires for the project, which will comprise 23 MHI Vestas 9.5MW turbines.
A single length of three-core HVAC 220kV cable with XLPE insulation will be supplied, Nexans said.
Cable testing and termination works will be carried out by the company’s Norway team.
Nexans said the cable will be manufactured in early 2019 at the company’s facility in Halden, Norway, with associated accessories made at its plant in Cortaillod, Switzerland.
The export cable will bring electricity from Northwester 2 to the Elia-owned offshore switch yard platform connected to the modular offshore grid.
Nexans senior executive vice president of the subsea and and systems business Vincent Dessale said: “We are delighted to extend our relationship with Parkwind and contribute to the Northwester 2 project that will play a major role in Belgium’s energy transition.
“Building on the expertise and know-how demonstrated in previous projects, notably Northwind and Belwind, our goal is to deliver a state-of-the-art cable for Parkwind’s latest wind farm, further ensuring the reliability of the offshore grid.”
Northwester 2 is expected to be fully operational in the first half of 2020.
Parkwind’s partners on the project include Colruyt, InControl and TTR.
