Northland Power and Innogy have inaugurated the operations and maintenance base in Norddeich for the 332MW Nordsee 1 wind farm in the German North Sea.
The partners signed a 26-year rental agreement with Norddeicher Schiffswerft for more than 1500 square metres at the harbour site in Lower Saxony.
Local architecture firm Architektur & Ingenieurbüro Torsten Janssen designed and constructed the facility, which includes offices, a workshop and a warehouse.
The Nordsee 1 team will monitor the project’s turbines and offshore substation from Norddeich, as well as carry out resource planning. About 70 staff will be working at the base once it is fully operational, the partners said.
Northland Power and Innogy also signed a five-year contract at the inauguration with NDE Offshore for submarine inspection and maintenance. Earlier this month, Semco was awarded a five-year contract for foundation and substation maintenance.
Crew transfer vessel Windea Four will be deployed to the project in October. All foundations and the internal cabling at the Nordsee 1 are in place, with MPI Enterprise scheduled to start installing 54 Senvion 6.2M126 turbines in spring 2017.
The project is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of 2017.
Northland owns 85% of the project, while Innogy has a 15% interest.
Earlier this year, Dong Energy inaugurated its German operations centre at Norddeich.
The Danish developer uses the facility to coordinate construction and O&M at its 312MW Borkum Riffgrund and 584MW Gode Wind 1&2 wind farms.
