Canadian energy company Northland Power has cancelled the planned installation of two MHI Vestas V164 turbines on mono bucket foundations at the Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm in the German North Sea because of ongoing issues with the foundations.
Installation of the demo project was paused last year because of unnamed technical issues.
Northland said an evaluation of the cause of the technical issues is underway and will not be completed until mid-year.
“Due to the timing issues associated with the technical review, among other considerations, Northland has elected to permanently forego the installation of the demonstrator project,” the company said.
Deutsche Bucht will now encompass the 31 monopiles and and MHI Vestas hardware that are already installed and operational.
The wind farm’s total size will be 252MW, instead of the 269MW including the demo, Northland said.
The company added that the decision to not proceed with the demo will not impact Northland’s 2020 financial guidance since the contributions from that part of the project were excluded from the guidance estimates provided.
Management continues to estimate adjusted EBITDA to be in the range of $1.1bn to $1.2bn, Northland said.
