Norway and the UK are to cooperate on green and low-emission technology, such as offshore wind, offshore grid networks and potential of hybrid projects, as part of a wider strategic cooperation agreement between the two countries.
The duo will also encourage collaboration on renewable energies, clean technologies, green mobility and other research areas contributing to the transition to a green economy.
The joint declaration was signed in London by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his Norwegian counterpart Jonas Gahr Store on 13 May.
It covers energy, economic and investment cooperation, climate change and environmental issues, global challenges and security and defence.
Aker Offshore Wind UK managing director Sian Lloyd-Rees said: “Norway and the UK have a long history of energy expertise and collaboration – we share the wild and unpredictable North Sea and a relationship that has endured over hundreds of years.
“This relationship is vital at a time when Europe is facing unprecedented energy security challenges, and following the commitments made at COP26.
“There is huge potential for innovation and partnership in floating offshore wind, an area of expertise for Aker, which can both increase security of supply and deliver ambitious Net Zero goals.
“This is already happening with Aker and BP partnering up for offshore wind projects off Norway.
“Green hydrogen is another significant area of development with the potential for Norway and the UK to jointly lead the world.
“With an enduring strong relationship, we can develop innovative solutions to the energy challenges our countries face both today and in the future.”
