Norgwegian outfit Maritime Partner has signed a contract with the Spanish shipyard Astilleros Gondan for the delivery of four boats, which will be stationed on two new service operation vessels (SOV) charted by Dong Energy for work in the offshore wind sector.
The contract is for two work boats and two fast rescue craft, said Maritime Partner.
It added that the work boats are a brand new concept developed for transporting service technicians and cargo from the motherships to wind turbines.
The design is Alusafe 1150 WF, while the rescue boats are of Weedo 700 FRC design, the company said.
The Alusafe 1150 WF will be equipped with a Volvo Penta inboard performance propulsion system.
The first two vessels will be delivered in September 2017 and the next two will be delivered in May 2018.
The SOV’s have been ordered by the Norwegian ship owner Østensjø Rederi and have been chartered for work on Dong’s 573MW Race Bank and 1.2GW Hornsea 1 offshore wind projects off the UK coast.
