Fourteen companies from Europe and the US have qualified to take part in the 15 December federal auction for the roughly 700MW New York offshore wind zone.
Companies fighting for the area some 11.5 nautical miles off Jones Beach include heavy-hitters Dong, Innogy, Statoil, EDF and Iberdrola business Avangrid.
Other experienced developers include WPD, Energy Management Inc, Fishermen’s Energy and Sea Breeze Energy.
Also in the mix are CI-II NY, Convalt, Clean Power Northeast Development and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.
Deepwater Wind is also included but said this week it would not bid, waiting instead for a post-auction opportunity.
The lease area consists of five full Outer Continental Shelf blocks and 143 sub-blocks.
“New York is a critical component in building a robust US offshore wind industry,” said Bureau of Ocean Energy Management director Abigail Ross Hopper.
“The process to develop and refine the New York lease area, as well as the online auction, reflects the deep commitment BOEM has to listening and responding to stakeholders and ensuring that all voices are heard as we forge a path to a clean energy future.”
