Energy industry skills organisation Opito has moved into the renewable energy sector after launching a new suite of training packages for offshore wind workers.
Opito said the new set of qualifications, as well as safety and technical training standards, build on its experience of training oil and gas workers.
“These new products mark a strategic shift for our organisation and will enable us to apply our vast experience to the renewable energy industry, as the energy mix further diversifies,” said chief executive John McDonald.
“Recognising the clear synergies that exist across the different parts of the industry, these new products will help to ensure the provision of a multi-disciplined and flexible workforce, now and in the future,” he said.
The training will cover various aspects of the sector including scoping, development, construction and O&M activities.
The Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training for Renewable Energy standard has been created for those seeking to enter or transition to roles in the renewable energy industry.
Two SCQF-accredited training qualifications – an introduction to mechanical and electrical engineering, and renewable energy foundation training – are aimed at workers starting their careers in the industry.
There are also refresher courses available for personnel already working in offshore wind.
The new products are now available for Opito-approved training centres and others to apply for.
