English company Ordtek has developed gadgets that can spot unexploded ordnance in challenging conditions.
New devices using 3D chirps, electromagnetic sensors and special sonar can help clear offshore wind and cabling sites better than the traditional technology, it said.
They can overcome challenges such as poor visibility due to silty waters, aluminium ground mines and large magnetic fields that can mask UXO pieces.
The company, based in Lowestoft, is already working on offshore projects including Galloper, Walney Hornsea and Rampion.
“For operators it means less waiting on the weather, more productivity, quicker UXO sign-offs and opens up more areas of the seabed for development,” principal consultant Lee Gooderham (pictured) said.
