Orsted has signed a framework agreement with Global Marine for cable repairs at the Danish developer’s UK offshore wind farms.
Global Marine will mobilise its CS Sovereign (pictured), Global Symphony and ASV Pioneer to carry out repairs, as well as crew transfer vessels to support the replacement and repair of array cables at its projects.
Orsted said the framework had been signed under the Atlantic Cable Maintenance Agreement (ACMA) – a non-profit cooperative cable maintenance agreement.
The AMCA allows shared services of vessels to enable cost effective and rapid cable replacement and repair.
Orsted UK country manager Benj Sykes said: “By joining ACMA we will benefit from the depth of its collective resources, bringing cost-effective and rapid repairs for our UK cables, and ultimately helping to bring down the cost of offshore wind.”
Global Marine chief executive Ian Douglas said Orsted’s entry into the AMCA marks a “step change” in the way cables at offshore wind projects are repaired.
“We look forward to marrying this historic telecom experience with the Group’s power cable experience associated with our participation in the post-millennium offshore renewables boom,” he said.
