Orsted CEO Mads Nipper has outlined a seven-point plan for offshore wind during Climate Week NYC.
Launching the plan, he said: “We stand in front of an immense scale up-journey, needed to realise policy ambitions and deliver on climate action, energy security, and economic opportunity.
“However, as anyone following the news will know, the offshore wind industry is also challenged.
“As the global leader in offshore wind, we at Orsted present a seven-point plan for how to build momentum and navigate the storm facing the offshore wind industry.”
Some of the key points of the plan include acknowledging the current challenges and mobilising the needed commitment to overcome them and building a bridge from development to operation for existing projects, to enable the all-important “next wave” projects to drive industry investment.
Nipper added that he was attending Climate Week NYC and the UN General Assembly, and meeting with key US stakeholders, to share Orsted’s perspective on the industry situation and to “drum up” support for its plan to move the industry forward.
He said: “Doing so, I remain fundamentally optimistic.
“Earlier this week together with Global Renewables Alliance we called for a global target to triple renewable capacity to at least 11,000GW by 2030.
“Because the future of renewables is still bright.
“And even as the offshore wind industry faces some financial woes, its fundamental value proposition has never been stronger.”
