Orsted is still keen to develop future projects in the Netherlands in spite of missing out on the right to develop the 760MW Hollandse Kust Zuid 3&4 offshore wind farm.
“We remain strongly committed to the Netherlands, a front runner in the transition from black to green energy,” Orsted’s offshore chief executive Martin Neubert told reNEWS.
The Dutch government awarded the right to develop HKZ 3&4 to Vattenfall yesterday.
“We submitted an attractive bid, but we do not expect to win every auction that we participate in,” Neubert added.
Orsted’s bid included proposals to use energy from the wind farm to produce hydrogen – an idea Orsted says it is still fully behind.
“We see green hydrogen produced by electrolysis using offshore wind as a cornerstone in the continued decarbonisation of our core markets.The outcome of this tender has not changed that,” a spokesperson for the company said.
Dutch developer Eneco meanwhile has said it is disappointed to have missed out in its bid to secure the site in consortium with Van Oord and Shell.
“Our consortium, consisting of Dutch companies who are very actively involved in the Dutch energy transition, submitted a great bid and we would have loved to build these two new wind farms in the North Sea,” an Eneco spokesperson said.
